Hello there!

We hope you and yours are safe and well in these extraordinary times.

We wanted to get in touch to say hello, check how you all are and start a conversation with you about what comes next. As we start to make our plans toward reopening, we’re going to keep in touch with you through this site.

Back in March, we took the decision to close the NVM to protect our staff and customers from the new threat of COVID. We didn’t want to take any chances with the safety of either our staff or our visitors, so shut down quickly and early. Like everyone, not really knowing what was going to be on the other side.

The last few months for us have been a rollercoaster. They started with us trying to get our bearings, understanding what support we might be able to get from the government, and quickly realising we needed a lifeline fast.

Our amazing fundraising team quickly swung into action with a high-profile just-giving campaign and a heroic amount of effort. The response was humbling and astonishing. Thanks the generosity of the public and our industry patrons, what could have been a very rapid end to the story of the NVM was avoided.
We’ve said it before, but it’s always worth saying again. From all of the team here, a heartfelt and never-ending thank you to everyone who has helped us.

Now, we’re starting to think about the next chapter. We’re starting to make plans for what our next NVM is going to be, how we’re going to be able to welcome you all back not just safely, but in an experience you’re still going to love. That’s our focus right now and we’re spending a lot of time talking to other museums and friends in the sector, in the UK and around the world, as we all try and work out what the ‘new normal’ is going to be

As part of this, we want to talk to you and find out how you’re feeling. What do you want from a ‘next’ NVM, how would you like to spend your time in it, what does it need to be for you to feel safe?
We’re going to be doing this in a few different ways – a survey, conversations on social media and of course if you ever want to just email us, we’re always delighted to hear from you.

We want to make these plans with you. Share them, test them and get us all playing together again before long.

Until next week!
