Thank You For Saving the National Videogame Museum

We’ve started to think about the future and we want to start a conversation with you about what comes next for the Museum.

Back in March before lockdown transformed all our lives, COVID was accelerating and we took the decision to close the Museum to protect our visitors and staff. There were just too many unknowns to remain open. 5 days later, the government closed everything down.

The last few months for us have been a rollercoaster. We knew that closing our doors was potentially a disaster for our charity. As we investigated what support we might be able to get from the government, we realised we needed a lifeline fast.

When we asked our community to help, you came to our rescue. Your response has been humbling and astonishing. There was an outpouring of support, and you raised enough for us to survive several months without any income. Thanks to your generosity, our Museum, our small team and our charity is still here.

We owe you a heartfelt and massive thank you from all of the team here. You’ve been truly amazing!

Now, we’re thinking about the next chapter, making plans for welcoming you all back not just safely, but with an experience you’re going to love. We’re spending a lot of time talking to other museums and friends in the sector in the UK and around the world, as we all try and work out what the ‘new normal’ is going to be

You are a big important part of this.

Our community helps shape the museum. It’s not just the curators, staff, our educators. You complete the puzzle, you make it the place it is.

We want to talk to you and find out how you’re feeling. We want to know:

  • What do you want from the NVM when we reopen?
  • How would you like to spend your time here?
  • What does that experience need to be for you to feel safe?
  • And of course, will you visit when we do reopen safely?

We’re going to be sending out a survey next week, will be having conversations on social media and of course if you ever want to just email us, we’re always delighted to hear from you.

These plans are for you so we want to make these plans with you.

Share them, test them and let’s get us all playing together again before long.

We’ll be sharing more next week – do get in touch!
