Back to exhibitionsAlthough based on the iconic arcade game Space Invaders (Taito, 1978), Tomy’s Attack in Space is not a videogame. Instead, the game runs using a wind-up mechanism which powers the shots against the alien invaders and serves as a timer for gameplay.
A clear plastic section at the top takes the place of a screen. Tomy produced a series of ‘Pocket Arcade’ mechanical and electro-mechanical handheld games in the early 1980s, many of which were inspired by early arcade and console videogames.
