Museum Walkthrough

Please find a photo introduction to the National Videogame Museum and what to expect in our Visual Story.

Accessibility

Wheelchair Access

The NVM has step-free access from Angel street, and is all on one floor, which means that the entire Museum is accessible to wheelchair users.

The majority of our games are played seated at table height, we use light cubes for seats which can easily be moved to make any game wheelchair accessible. Please feel free to move these cubes around so you and anyone you visit with can enjoy playing together. Unfortunately, this does not apply to our Arcade collection which are in original cabinets.

Audio Sensitivities

The NVM can be a loud and sensory demanding experience at times. There can be bright screens and flashing lights, please speak to a member of the crew if you have any concerns.

We do provide free ear defenders at reception, which when worn will reduce the noise to enjoy the museum.

Guide, Assistance and Companion Animals

Guide, assistant and companion animals – including assistant dogs in training – are welcome at the Museum, as long as they’re working and are wearing their tabards/harness. Owners should bring the dog’s Assistance Dogs (UK) identification book (or the appropriate international equivalent) with them.

Guide, assistant and companion animals must be kept with you at all times.

Carer Access

The National Videogame Museum is an interactive experience that we want everyone to enjoy. We provide free essential carers tickets, bookable online with any other ticket.

Proof of carer status is required, we accept:

  • Middle or higher care needs for DLA
  • PIP
  • MAX Card
  • Other Access Cards or alternative evidence

Facilities

Accessible Toilets

Our accessible toilet is available next to reception.

We do not have a Changing Places toilet. The nearest are available at:

  • The Crucible Theatre
  • Ponds Forge International Sports Centre

Seating

There is lots of seating around the Gallery, please be aware all of our seating is benches or stools. You’re welcome to use walking sticks or folding stools with seat attachments.

Quieter Times

The quietest times to visit the Museum are midweek in term time, our sessions run 1pm – 4pm Thursday – Friday. If you would like to visit on a weekend we recommend Sunday’s afternoon session (2pm – 5pm).

Saturday is usually the busiest day in the museum.

You can see how many tickets are available in each session on the calendar during the booking process, which might help you choose a slot.

If you have any queries or concerns please get in touch.
