LocoRoco

Developed by: Japan Studio
Released: 2006 (PSP) / 2017 (PS4)
Platform: PS4

LocoRoco allows you to play with the laws of gravity and join the LocoRocos for a playful, musical adventure.

In LocoRoco you play as the planet that the LocoRoco live on. There are 6 different types of LocoRoco, which are differentiated by their colours and the songs they sing. Locorocos can also be broken apart and put back together to be able to manoeuvre around the space.

Collect as many Locorocos as you can by moving the planet around them.  Just remember, what goes up must come down!

Designed with the PSP in Mind

LocoRoco was a perfect fit for the PlayStation Potable (PSP) handheld console with its simplified controls and left and right bumper buttons. Because of this, instead being developed for PS2 it was developed and designed with PSP in mind.

Less controls (as provided by the Left and Right shoulder buttons on the PSP) made the game more approachable for children. This was part of the initial design and another reason why the creators stuck to the PSP control design.

The game’s director, Tsutomu Kouno, developed the idea of the planet’s tilting view when he looked at his own game sketches on a Personal Digital Assistant and realised they became more compelling as the screen was rotated.
