A Super Special Star Object

We’re honoured to have on display an actual BAFTA Award courtesy of Sheffield based videogame studio Sumo Digital. The award, for their 2020 platformer Sackboy: A Big Adventure, will feature prominently in the Museum gallery for visitors to view up close all May half term.

Marvel at this stunning (and surprisingly heavy!) award before journeying through the Museum with a brand new trail from our own award winning Learning Team. This “Side Quest” will ask you to find and play different games and objects in our collection. Look out for the colourful markers dotted around the Museum to help you find each game or object. Tick them off as you go and collect a sticker when complete!

Can you find them all?

New Games to Play

Alongside playable BAFTA winning favourites like Super Mario Odyssey and Lumino City in our collection, we’re introducing two new games to play over the half term holidays. Both won awards at the 2024 BAFTA Games ceremony.

> Viewfinder: Winner of Best British Game Award, it was developed by Sad Owls Studios in 2023. The game invites the player to challenge perception, redefine reality, and solve puzzles utilising an instant camera.

> Tchia: Developed by Awaceb, the game won the Game Beyond Entertainment Award and tasks the player to climb, glide or sail a new adventure playing as the titular character.

Get Creative

Inspired by BAFTA award winning games in our collection use coloured pencils and filters to design hidden drawings, messages and puzzles in new arts and craft activities. There’s also the opportunity to take inspiration from BAFTA winning puzzle games Monument Valley and Viewfinder. Reimagine your favourite videogame stages to create completely new mind-bending levels full of twists, turns and hidden secrets.

Also back by popular demand for May Half Term is our Game Boy Camera! This retro classic returns in our upcoming object handling activity. Relive 90’s camera technology to take selfies, group photos or capture rare objects in our collection.
