Explore the science of physics through videogames, educational activities, and a special 360 degree virtual tour of the Large Hadron Collider this February half term at The National Videogame Museum!
Alongside a new Physics Exhibit (which features six playable games), children and adults alike will be able to virtually explore the Large Hadron Collider at CERN in Switzerland!

We’ve been working in collaboration with the University of Sheffield and CERN to enable visitors to explore the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) facility via an immersive 360 degree tour. This collaboration allows adults, families and young people to access and explore the facility virtually. Learn all about particle physics and the research that takes place at CERN.
Dr. Kristin Lohwasser, who is a Senior Lecturer in Experimental Particle Physics at the University of Sheffield and lead on the project says: “It’s exciting to showcase CERN and our University of Sheffield research in a virtual tour and as an interactive world in drop in activities. We’ll also show off a bit of how videogames and videogame technology are helping us out now in our research. So really a two-way partnership!”
Alongisde the LHC Virtual Tour a brand new interactive Physics Exhibit will be introduced this half term. It will feature six playable games that highlight how the work done at CERN and other research impacts videogame technology and gameplay.
Explore the history of the development of physics and physics-based game engines through the decades with Thrust, Jurassic Park: Trespasser and Portal 2 while exploring the fun aspects of physics gameplay in Loco Roco, Turbo Dismount and Kerbal Space Program – a game that was praised for its physics realism by none other than NASA!
We’re open 10am-1pm & 2pm-5pm everyday from the 11th-19th February.

Alongside over 100 playable videogames, there will also be chance to experience the newly updated Platform X: Space Invaders. Celebrate the evolution of the 1978 classic through sequels, spin offs and clones and see how varied one game can be!
The Uemura Collection Exhibition will also be featuring a new star object on display! Think Nintendo’s first console was the Nintendo Entertainment System? The Famicom maybe? Think again! The 1979 Block Kuzushi Color TV game was the first console to be exclusively made by Nintendo and we have it on display in all it’s glory!
