The National Videogame Museum invites families, heritage enthusiasts and gamers alike to embark on an epic quest this February half term with a range of thrilling and educational castle themed experiences.
Open every day from the 15th – 23rd February, the NVM presents Castle Quest, an adventure that combines the fun, excitement and creativity of videogames with the rich history of Sheffield Castle.
Book TicketsFeaturing beloved 1990s classics like ‘Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse’ and ‘Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle’, visitors can explore the enchanting virtual worlds of these old favourites alongside modern indie gaming adventures in a new suite of castle inspired videogames. Trading gamepads for a virtual crossbow, friends and families will also have the opportunity to test their archery skills in high score competitions in an exhilarating Nintendo Wii Crossbow training experience.
Whether inspired by Sheffield’s local heritage or their favourite videogame worlds, participants can unleash their creativity too, with craft activities developed by the NVM’s multi-award winning learning team. Tailored for all ages visitors can construct their very own castle strongholds to pop-up card creations and isometric castle doodling.
Celebrating Sheffield’s history and heritage, visitors will also delve into the fascinating history of Sheffield Castle. Partnering with Wessex Archaeology, explore the remarkable findings from the largest excavation project of Sheffield Castle to date through engaging activities and insightful materials, including a detailed model replica of how Sheffield Castle once looked circa 400 years ago.
