Spend the holiday season with friends and family at the Museum and discover over 100 playable games and exhibitions such as The Art of Play and two new exhibits that have landed just in time for Christmas:
👾 Platform X: Space Invaders – Experience 14 versions of the 1978 classic as well as it’s sequels, spin-offs and clones
🕹️ The Uemura Collection – a new exhibit celebrating the life of legendary Nintendo game engineer, Masayuki Uemura which includes rare objects on display for the first time at the NVM!
This new exhibit shines a light on the true Nintendo icon, Japanese designer and engineer of the Famicom, Masayuki Uemura. It showcases how his creations changed gaming forever.
Highlights include a new two-cabinet display centred around Nintendo’s iconic 1983 Famicom and several rare objects on display for the first time ever in Sheffield. The exhibition also includes four playable games that Uemura-sensei handpicked himself during his visit to the NVM in 2020.
Uemura-sensei’s creations defined this era of gaming including pioneering the design of the iconic game controller, still used today by modern games consoles like the Xbox and PlayStation.

The 17th and 18th of December saw us host drop in workshops for our visitors to create Space Invaders themed Christmas decorations. There were some absolutely fantastic designs and they’ve helped to nicely decorate one of our trees that now sits proudly on our front desk!
We’ll be adding an online version of the workshop to our website soon so keep an eye out for that! Space Invaders make excellent decorations for all occasions!

Our Secret Santa campaign asks supporters to gift the cost of entry (or more!) to enable someone who may not otherwise be able to afford it to visit.
By ‘paying it forwards’, and donating the cost of admission for others in the community, we are looking to raise vital funds to allow museum entry for those communities we engage with as part of our outreach work, for local charity partners, or for school children accessing our award-winning educational and vocational programme.
