Fantasy World Dizzy

Developed by: The Oliver Twins
Released: 1989
Platform: Amstrad CPC

The third game in the Dizzy series, Fantasy World Dizzy sees the eponymous hero attempt to rescue girlfriend Daisy from the evil King Troll.

Also known as Dizzy III, the game was developed by The Oliver Twins (friends and patrons of The National Videogame Museum) in 1989. It’s the first Dizzy adventure to feature many elements which later became a staple for the series. This included having three lives, an improved inventory system and a balance between puzzle-solving and hazards.

Dizzy III Map – Making Memories

Certainly, one of the museum’s Star Objects is the hand drawn map of Fantasy World Dizzy. Created around 1989, the map features intricated hand drawn detail and kevel design by The Oliver Twins.

The map features hundreds of intricate level details such as clouds, trapdoors and beanstalks, all sketched out in pencil. The drawing even includes alternative titles for the game which had not yet been decided! The map features in The Art of Play exhibition.

During the Easter holidays we had a visitor who came to the museum with his children. He discovered Fantasy World Dizzy which evoked many nostalgic memories. This included him designing his own videogame map as a child after reading in a magazine that the Oliver Twins had done the same thing when creating their games.
