No Man’s Sky is about exploration and survival set in an infinite universe. Where you go is entirely up to you.

No Man’s Sky is a vast interplanetary, open world survival game. It was first released in 2016, and was developed by a small team at Hello Games, based in Guildford, Surrey.

Second Chances

In a way, No Man’s Sky is all about second chances. The hype surrounding No Man’s Sky’s announcement almost killed the game, as high expectations left players disappointed by the initial release. Multiple proposed features for the game were absent, and the infamous ‘procedurally generated planets’ didn’t perform in the way players had expected. The game was widely critiqued and negative feedback piled in during the game’s initial release.

Hello Games never gave up, and have continued to patch and update the game. The missing features, such as multiplayer play, were implemented, systems were redesigned, and by 2021 – five years after the game’s debut – the company had completely reversed players’ negative opinions. No Man’s Sky now exists as an example of just what hard work, determination and a ‘never give up’ attitude can do.

Interesting Facts

  • When the game was first announced back in 2013, it had a very small team of just four people developing the game, led by Hello Games’ founder Sean Murray.

  • The game doesn’t follow a traditional linear story. Instead, it is about the journey of the player discovering new worlds, creatures and resources. However, if players are willing to dig a little deeper into the game, they can discover tons of lore.
