Compete in a series of events using two ‘run’ buttons and one ‘action’ button to control a competing athlete.

Track & Field is an Olympics-themed sports game developed by Konami and originally released for arcades in 1983. The game became a worldwide commercial success becoming one of the most successful arcade games in 1984.

Playable Events:

 

  • 100 Metre Dash
  • Long Jump
  • Javelin Throw
  • 110 Metre Hurdles
  • Hammer Throw
  • High Jump

Each event features a qualifying time of level that the player must achieve to reach the next event. Failing to qualify will reduce the players number of lives by 1 (extra lives can be earned for every 100,000 points scored).

 

Interesting Facts:

 

  • The game was known as Hyper Olympic in Japan and Europe. The European version was re-released in 1984 under the US Title of Track & Field
  • Track & Field to a resurgence of arcade sports games and inspired Namco’s side-scrolling platform game Pac-Land (1984).
  • Ports of the game were released on the Atari 2600, NES, Game Boy and many of the popular computers at the time including the ZX Spectrum and Commodore 64.
