Recently we got to celebrate the success of our Next Level Project! Five of our students, who had never even thought about games design before, celebrated their success after embarking on a six week games design course.
The Next Level Project was a free course provided by the National Videogame Museum to enable women of colour aged between 18-25 to get into creating videogames.
Throughout the course they developed basic coding skills, level design and had an insight to the various career pathways in the industry. All contributing to the aim of designing their very own videogames!
On the 15th July, the students attended the celebration event at the National Videogame Museum. Here they received an AIM (investing in your futures) certificate. Alongside this, a laptop was donated to them from a charity called Laptops For All. The laptops will enable them to continue their passion for games development at home.
This was a pinnacle event where family and friends of the students attended. There was a real sense of pride, achievement but most of all community engagement.
Stacey Jubb, Head of Learning at the NVM (pictured right) said: “I have been truly inspired by these fantastic students. Their passion and enthusiasm for games is unbelievable and we couldn’t have created the course without them. I am so proud of what we have achieved together. Along with facilitator Sonia Khan we have created a successful foundation for learning.”
It was a brilliant event and we are so proud of the students. Their hard work has really paid off! We wish them all the best in their future careers in the videogame industry!
