Booking EnquiryA self-guided visit to the National Videogame Museum is a great way to support earning badges like the Digital Maker badge, encourage team-building or as an exciting reward trip! Take your time to play and explore our galleries in any of our general opening sessions throughout the week.
The museum is open from 13:00 – 16:00 on Thursdays and Fridays, or 10:00 – 13:00 and 14:00 – 17:00 on weekends, and throughout the school holidays. Self led visits are £9/student and your group can benefit from 1 accompanying adult free per 8 students. Additional adults are charged at £12/head.

The museum is also available for private hires outside of our general opening hours, including evenings throughout the week. If you have a larger group, or would like to visit us when we are not open you can book the space on an hourly basis. We can also include activities or workshops as a part of your hire!
Private hire starts from £200 per hour during the day, or £300 per hour during the evenings for up to 60 people. We also have an Education Room that can be hired as a part of your visit. We can also accommodate larger groups, so get in touch to find out more and book your visit!
We also offer exciting workshops that cover a range of subjects and can be adapted to suit your group. Each workshop lasts for 1 hr and will be delivered by our team of Learning Facilitators at the museum during your visit. Your visit will also include time to explore our galleries and play games!
Visits with a workshop included are £10/student and your group can benefit from 1 accompanying adult free per 8 students aged under 10, or 10 students under 16 years old. Additional adults are charged at £12/head.
Workshops can accommodate up to 30 participants at once. For groups of up to 60, groups will be split for the workshop. For groups larger than 60, get in touch to discuss your needs.

Inspire the Next Generation of Museum Makers!
In this workshop students will learn more about the way a museum works, who works there and what they all do behind the scenes to ‘make a museum’! Students will explore the museum, thinking critically about the museum’s exhibits before becoming ‘museum makers’ themselves. In groups, students will create an idea for an exhibit, workshop or new game for the museum. Finally each group will take it in turns to pitch their ideas to the rest of the class!
Key Skills:
Work together in groups to construct a DIY videogame controller to defeat the aliens in Space Invaders. Learn about the design of videogame controllers and how they work, and how adaptive controllers are used to make gaming more accessible to everyone.
Key Skills:
Learn how to create and animate a pixel art videogame character! Explore the history of videogame character design and create your own while learning how to use digital software ‘Piskel’. Bring your new creations to life as you explore simple frame by frame animations!
